About Mac

Funeral and Wedding Celebrant Minister

I am a Funeral and Wedding Celebrant with the flexibility to conduct non-religious/humanist services through to spiritual or religious services. Previously I had been in Church of England ministry taking weddings and funerals for families for two decades. More recently I served patients and their families as palliative care Chaplain at Countess Mountbatten Hospice through the Covid pandemic. Since then I have conducted nearly 300 bespoke services for families as Funeral Celebrant/Minister and Weddings too. At the Hospice, I mostly conducted less religious or humanist funeral and wedding services and so now as a Celebrant I specialise in conducting both these but also more spiritual and religious services as desired.

For Funerals I shape services to be uniquely tailored to both account for the wishes of the loved one who has died and to meet the desired expectations of their families. I have a vast experience of conducting less formal, even relaxed services ranging from Celebrations of Life to Renewal of Wedding Vows. More formally, I have conducted memorials and formal full military services, including to commemorate the Battle of Britain for the RAFA, RBL Remembrance Festivals/Parades and Hospice Memorials.

Whether a family desire a simple short funeral service or a more detailed longer memorial, I will help guide you through anything from music timing to Eulogy composition. In liaison with the Funeral Director, I will help produce your favoured design of Order of Service, whilst implementing specific instructions to personalise the service for your loved one on the day.

Drawing on my experience as a Chaplain and before that as Vicar, I can also offer complimentary optional bereavement support, whilst also training to be a Counsellor, by families request.  For me  it’s about meeting the expectations of families, whilst honouring and best representing the life of the person who has died.

For Weddings I will meet with the family and shape the service around your wishes. I can offer templates for vows or you might want to compose your own. I will work with you to find the best way of telling your stories and how you came together and next, everyone likes a ‘proposal story!’ When desired I like to weave in symbolic gestures that help to include, for example, children from previous relationships that make a statement about the next chapter for the new family together. I will provide a Certificate of Marriage that we sign on the day.
